Walking the Anza Trail

June 27, 1776 was a big day for the future United States. While the Declaration of Independence was getting its final review in Philadelphia, a group of Native American and Spanish explorers were arriving at a sandy bay on the Northern California coast. They had come 1200 miles from Sonora, Mexico, to establish the town which would one day become San Francisco.

Today, the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail covers over 1200 miles, following the 1775-76 Spanish expedition from Sonora to San Francisco. Join us to learn more about the Anza expedition, and how it shaped the United States today.
